Dominant Australian Prostock Championship rider Matt Walters has reflected on a “perfect” season aboard his privateer Kawasaki ZX-10R entry which resulted in confirmation of his second national title in the first race of the weekend at Hidden Valley.

The 20-year-old has been in a class of his own in 2013, winning 13 of the 14 races contested and amassing 350 points from a possible 355.

His storming 7.383-second win in Saturday’s opening race was enough to put the title within reach of rival riders.

“It’s been a perfect year and I’m very happy to win the Australian championship,” said the Rover Coaches/Kawasaki Connection-backed Walters. “It’s taken a few years to win the title on the ZX-10R after winning the 600 title in 2010 and the feeling is great.

“The Ninja ZX-10R did everything that was asked of it in Darwin and we had a perfect weekend.”

Walters’ impressive pace was indicated as he not only broke the qualifying record to open the weekend, but set about breaking the race lap record each time out, lowering the benchmark to 1m08.094 by the end of the weekend, a time good for top six in the Superbike field.

The ZX-10R has been the machine of choice in the Prostock category, leading the manufacturers’ standings by 1,098 points over BMW with a round still to run.
