A previously-planned 300 kilometre race for the Australian Superbike Championship season finale at Phillip Island has been scrapped in favour of the traditional two-race format.

International Entertainment Group (IEG) had tabled an endurance element to the 5-6 October event but after consultation with riders and key series stakeholders, has reversed its decision.

IEG general manager Phil Harper said concerns expressed by teams and riders and a lack of proper preparation time promoted the decision.

“We don’t want to place additional pressure on riders and teams or increase their costs,” said Harper.

“After careful consideration it was a greed by all parties to stick with the tried and proven format we have run all year.”

It is unclear if the concept will be explored for the five-round 2014 championship. Endurance racing requires the use of additional consumables, including tyres, and would require the use of additional equipment for re-fuelling in pit stops.
