Isle of Man legend John McGuinness will make his first appearance on Aussie soil as he spearheads the United Kingdom team at the 2014 International Island Classic meet at Phillip Island on 24-26 January, 2014.

A 20-race victor at the Isle of Man and an accomplished endurance racer, 41-year-old McGuinness will pilot a Honda-powered Harris F1 machine prepared by UK squad leader, Roger Winfield.

McGuinness will add muscle to the UK outfit as it seeks to wrestle the International Trophy team prize back from event host Australia.

He joins fellow road racers Gary Johnson and Steve Brogan as new additions to the team which will feature a total of 13 Britons.

“John McGuinness is a superstar,” said Keith Higgs, team captain for the UK. “If you have always wanted to get to the Isle of Man to see John race, you’re in luck because I’m thrilled to say that John is heading down under.

“Where else, apart from the Isle of Man would you want to see him race, but Phillip Island. I can’t wait to see him carve up the place.

“We have an awesome team this year and I think we will give the Aussies a massive run for their money.”

The UK squad are putting an enormous effort into their Island Classic campaign for 2014, including bringing eight mechanics to Australia to work with the team of expats they are assembling.

Australia, America and New Zealand also contest the team trophy category, with rider lineups to be announced shortly.
