2012 Australian Supersport Champion Mitchell Carr is focusing on an opportunity to race within the British Superbike Championship (BSB) ranks in 2014 after his World Supersport campaign came to an early end.

The Triumph-mounted Carr headed to the world stage with Andy Offer and the AARK Racing team in 2013, and despite their best efforts, found themselves facing a major struggle to make their machine competitive against the championship’s established outfits.

“It was a good bike, it was very good here in Australia, and faultless,” Carr told Ride Rage Radio. “We sort of prepped it up and just came into some really big issues with it throughout the season.

“We kept chipping away and tried really really hard, but the bikes over there are just so well developed and they’ve been sort of on those bikes for so so long, especially the Hondas, and they’ve got them down pat. It’s just really really hard to compete.”

Learning an all-new set of demanding circuits and creating a cohesive team atmosphere only added to the challenge for Carr, who insists the resulting split with Offer was on good terms as both parties sought out their next opportunities.

“I’ll never forget what we’ve done together,” said Carr. “We came in as a privateer team and we took it to the factories. It was a really big effort on all parties and everyone worked really hard for that, so I’ll cherish that until the end of time.

“I just knew that going over there was going to be difficult and we did have a hard slog. That’s pretty much what it boils down to, but there’s definitely no hard feelings there, whatsoever.”

Prior to returning to Australia, Carr was able to organise a test with an as yet unnamed BSB team which has opened a door for a ride in 2014.

“I’m really interested in the BSB,” he said. “I tested with a real front-running BSB team right before I came home and they were very happy, we sort of went pretty quick on the bike and we’ve made a really good relationship there so that’s sort of the avenue I’m looking at.

“But naturally, the same story, they need a little bit of support from the rider as well. That’s money I’m looking into now. I’m back in Oz now, I’ve been home for nearly a week now and I’m totally determined to make that happen.”
