Broc Parkes will contest the final round of the World Superbike Championship (WSBK) in Jerez with current World Endurance Championship (WEC) outfit Monster Energy Yamaha Austria Racing Team (YART).

The Aussie rider will start his 88th WSBK race at the final round of the series in Spain, the first time he has raced in the premier category since 2010 after running top five in the Supersport ranks for the past two seasons.

“We plan to enter the Australian Broc Parkes as wildcard in the eni FIM Superbike World Championship round at Jerez”, said team manager Mandy Kainz.

“Our expectations are not particularly high. We do not know the track in Jerez and have no experience with the Pirelli tires. A place in the top 10 would be great in these circumstances.”

Should the exercise prove a positive one, Kainz confirmed that YART would look at running a part-time program in WSBK for 2014.

“Yes, we are seriously thinking about competing in the eni FIM Superbike World Championship, but only at a few selected events,” he said.

“The whole thing is a matter of budget of course. A full season is not an option at the moment.”

Parkes, who has been a WEC frontrunner in 2013, would be a logical choice for the seat if the move did eventuate.

The Australian rider has four full seasons of WSBK behind him and an intimate knowledge of the championship circuits following over a decade of experience.

The Jerez finale falls a fortnight after the penultimate round of the Australian FX-Superbike Championship, which Parkes currently leads by 21 points from Yamaha Racing Team stablemate Kevin Curtain.
