Rossi confirms VR46 Sky Moto3 team for 2014 season

Multiple MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi has confirmed he will field a team in the Moto3 category next year.

Rossi’s VR46-labelled company will pair with Italian MotoGP broadcaster Sky Italia to form the newly-named VR46 Sky Moto3 outfit, established to nurture new talent on the world stage.

The move is a departure from earlier indications that Rossi would not field a team, rather only a establish a riders academy to develop skill and racecraft in readiness for the track.

The team will run KTM machinery, and has confirmed Romano Fenati as one of its pilots. Rossi’s half-brother Luca Marini is a front-runner for the team’s second seat.

“We have joined forces with Sky in order to give the Italian riders the opportunity to be competitive and reach the highest levels,” said Rossi in the leadup to this week’s grand prix in Spain.

Rossi’s outfit is one of 17 Moto3 teams which have been made an offer to compete in the 2014 world championship, with a total of 32 riders to take part.

Full confirmation on the participating teams will be made after the Malaysian Grand Prix which will be held on 13 October.

Recent
