Three-time World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss headlined a handful of motorcycle racing legends on hand to foster Australia’s emerging talent at the second annual motoDNA Big Day Out at Broadford last week.

Bayliss joined Jason Crump, Kevin Magee, Mark Willis and other road race identities to lead the day-long program which saw riders receive guided tuition and tips both on and off the track.

Rain falling didn’t dampen the experience, with motoDNA Foundation creator Mark McVeigh hailing the event a success.

“I am so pleased that we had a result today especially with the weather challenges,” said McVeigh. “We are so grateful to all the coaches and ambassadors who have committed to the motoDNA foundation and given up their time to travel to Broadford for the Big Day Out.

“We have a huge range of talent amongst the juniors aged from 10 to 16 years old and to bring them together with these legends of our sport is pretty unique in the world and a dream come true.”

In keeping with motoDNA’s objectives, a number of initiatives will soon be announced by the foundation with the goal of placing Australian riders into world championship teams.

“Its been two years hard work to get to this stage and we are at a critical point now,” continued McVeigh. “We really need the Australian public to get behind this foundation and support the next generation of Australian road racers.”

Such partnerships are expected to be announced after next month’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island, after which fund-raising activities will follow.

For Bayliss, the chance to lend a hand to up and coming riders was a valuable one, and an enjoyable day out.

“I wanted to come and have a look at the juniors and see what’s going on,” said Bayliss. “There are a lot of young fast guys and girls coming up through the ranks and coaching is important, it’s the way to go and I’m here with the motoDNA foundation to have a look at these junior Aussie riders and help where I can to see more Aussies overseas.

“It was good to spend some time with Magoo [Magee] too always nice to get out on track for a spin with him and hear a few stories.”

Magee and Crump both felt it was important to not only pass on riding tips, but to impart advice on strategy for riders wishing to advance their career and determining the best paths to follow.

Television coverage of the Big Day Out will be aired on Speed TV prior to the Phillip Island GP.

A short highlights package of the day is now available on the motoDNA Facebook page.
