Caretta Technology RTG rider Jack Miller was left on the back foot in the Aragon Moto3 race after tyre issues from qualifying saw him swamped in the mid-pack.

Aussie Miller rued a wrong tyre choice as he set his sights on another start within the top 10, and from position 20, found himself battling early to make up necessary ground.

“We struggled all weekend,” reflected Miller. “Qualifying was a disaster – I had the wrong tyre, and we ended up losing out so today we had to start from the back.

“We had a good pace, even [on Saturday] I should have been seventh on the grid, which would have been a bit nicer.”

He made a strong start to the grand prix but allowed the riders he regularly battled with a huge head start as he sought to make up ground.

An incident ahead of the group he was battling with saw the momentum halted and hopes of a top 10 go begging.

“I had to work my way through and into that big group,” he continued. “It was going good, then Vazquez hit Khairuddin and he went down and we all had to chop the gas, and broke up the group.

“We lost the slipstream and that was pretty much the end of it. But we took some points, that’s the main thing.”

Miller’s finish in 13th place broke a six-race string of top 10 finishes (excluding his DNF in Indianapolis), though he is still on target to round out his second Moto3 season on a high note, currently placed seventh.
