International Entertainment Group will slash Australian Superbike Championship entry fees to $100 per class for each round of the 2014 season.

IEG managing director Yarrive Konsky tonight confirmed the news via a personal post on the official series Facebook Page.

Currently at IEG-run events apart from Darwin (free), the Superbike category entry fee is $480, Supersport $400, Moto3/125GP $400, Prostock $370 and 250 Production $250. Cross entries are free.

“As an ex-racer I respect the common suggestion from riders that they shouldn’t pay to compete when promoters are earning money from their appearance,” Konksy commented. “Promoters in Australia should not be allowed to earn a living from their competitors in a professional arena.

“Footballers are all paid, cricketers are paid and entertainers are paid – after all they are the show. In certain motorsports participants pay to race, however they generally have either of the following; dividends in the profits, travel allowances, large prize money, tyre allowances (Dorna with MotoGP). In Australia the norm has been that promoters make their return through participation.

“In 2014 this will stop. IEG want to increase participation. Paying large sums of prize money helps the frontrunners, most of whom have support and sponsorship of varying degrees.

“There are many areas to focus on, however the first step is in increasing participation. Bigger fields will mean more industry support, more eyes on the sport and a greater interest. IEG for 2014 have decided to make all entries into the 2014 championship $100.”

In addition to the $100 entry fee there will be associated fees including garages, transponders and the RACESAFE Medical Team according to the announcement. Those fees will remain the same as this season; full garages $330, half garages $165, transponders $15 each and the RACESAFE levy $30 per round.

Konsky confirmed that the ASBK series will span “primarily” over two-day events in 2014 unless rounds are run in conjunction with three-day events.

“We will primarily run two-day events unless we are running in conjunction with other events that are scheduled over three days,” Konsky added.

Next year’s class structure will be unveiled on Friday, including a brand new clubman-based class. A survey is to be be conducted, with Konsky stating that IEG will “shortly inform” competitors of the 2014 regulations.

All potential competitors interesting in participating in the survey should contact [email protected] for details.
