Yamaha Racing Team is celebrating a podium sweep in the Australian FX-Superbike Championship, won by Broc Parkes at Sydney Motorsport Park last weekend.

Yamalube-backed Parkes wrapped up the championship in his return to Australia after more than a decade competing internationally, edging out IPONE-supported teammates Kevin Curtain and Rick Olson.

For YRT it was one of their most successful seasons in history, sweeping the premier class rostrum with the YZF-R1.

“To have three riders in the FX-Superbike championship has been a huge undertaking for YRT and for Yamaha so it is a dream come true to have all three riders standing on the podium at the end of the championship,” Redding reflected.

“Congratulations to Broc on an outstanding season and his victory in this championship and it didn’t come easy for him as both Rick and Kevin pressured him all the way.

“Our team has worked particularly hard this year to keep all the riders on track and their countless hours has returned them a championship win and a full YRT podium so that is extremely satisfying for all of us.

“I must also make mention of our team sponsors who continue to step up and provide the best products and parts available for us to go racing and also for Yamaha Australia for its continued support of road racing in Australia.”

Curtain also clinched the Formula Oz title for Yamaha, while Olson and Cru Halliday comfortably sit in positions one and two in the FX-600 series to conclude in November alongside the non-championship FX500.

“With all three riders battling in the Superbikes, there was some tense moments from us in the pits,” said YRT manager John Redding. “It’s not always fun watching our riders battle on the track as a mistake can be costly to all of them. But to their credit, they all raced professionally and put on a great show.

“Rick is looking good for the FX600cc championship but it was more pleasing to see him put a big weekend of racing together and race with maturity. Kev had a fall which damaged his chances but he is a fighter and he took the Formula Oz win on a very successful weekend for YRT.”
