Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions (ARTRP) has announced that the 2013 running of the FX-500 endurance event is cancelled due to a lack of entries.

The $100,000 winner takes all event was scheduled to be launched at Sydney Motorsport Park next week, with the naming rights sponsor and rider line-up to be revealed.

However it was confirmed today by ARTRP that the event has been cancelled, to be replaced on Saturday, 16 November, with the inaugural Australasian Superbike Championship (ASC) in a one-off event for Superbikes.

“The opportunity to run the inaugural Australasian Superbike Championship for the Superbike class has come about because of the cancelling of the FX 500 Endurance race due to a lack of entries being received in a suitable time frame,” and announcement from ARTRP read.

“While this is very disappointing for us, it was considered not possible to run such an event without what were considered enough entries to make a true spectacle for the spectators and television.

“This is not the end of the endurance racing though, as we have learnt quite a number of hard-earned lessons in getting this far for what it will take to make a big endurance race work in the future.”

The ASC event will be nationally televised, run over four sprint races using FX-Superbike regulations.

The inaugural ASC championship will run alongside the two-day final round of the 2013 Australian FX-Superbike Championships’ major support classes series finale, which was scheduled to run in conjunction with the FX-500.

This event will remain as scheduled a two-day race meeting, with practice and qualifying on Friday, and all racing on Saturday for all classes. All classes will have four races each on the day.

ARTRP will be offering assistance to any international rider looking to enter the event.
