Former Australian Superbike Champion Bryan Staring isn’t ruling out a solid result this weekend when Phillip Island hosts the 16th round of the 2013 MotoGP World Championship.

Staring will return home for the Tissot Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix following a trying rookie MotoGP campaign to date, picking up just two points in an attrition-filled race at Catalunya.

But the likeable Western Australian remains optimistic ahead of this weekend’s event, at a circuit that holds fond memories for Staring – including a 125GP wildcard appearance in 2004.

“Finally we go to Phillip Island, a circuit that holds special memories for me because I have won here many times,” Staring said. “I really want a good result in my home race to put the Sepang weekend behind us.

“We just couldn’t get comfortable with the bike in Malaysia, but a strong performance at Phillip Island would be a nice way to set us up for the last couple of races of the season.”

Staring struggled to 18th at Sepang last weekend, three places out of a points-paying position aboard the lone FTR Honda on the grid.

With his future up in the air after his Team GO&FUN Honda Gresini squad signed Brit Scott Redding for 2014, Staring recently attended the Magny-Cours round of the Superbike World Championship in a bid to seal a WSBK seat.
