Columbian Yonny Hernandez will partner Andrea Iannone in the Pramac Racing Team for the 2014 MotoGP World Championship.

As of this week’s three-day MotoGP test at the Valencia circuit, the Hernandez will be riding for Ducati as a full time team rider.

The determination exhibited by Hernandez during his time with the team as a substitute rider in the last five rounds of this year’s championship convinced Pramac and Ducati to continue the relationship.

Hernandez will pilot an Open class Desmosedici using the control ECU, but allowed an additional four litres of fuel and seven extra engines per season than the Factory entries.

“I am very happy to be here today,” Hernandez said. “It’s a great opportunity for me to continue with the Pramac team, and the fact that we have confirmed our partnership for another year makes me really enthusiastic.

“I cannot wait to get on track and try the new ‘Open’ bike, even though that won’t happen here in Valencia, and I’m also curious to try the new tyres. I am proud to be the second Latin American rider, and the first Colombian, to ride with this team in the premier class.

“I know that I have to work hard, but the new ‘Open’ category is very interesting. I really want to go out on track and start learning. I want to thank Pramac, Ducati and all those who have made this new adventure possible.”

Pramac Racing Team manager Francesco Guidotti welcomed Hernandez to the team after an inspiring close to the 2013 season, featuring a best result of 10th in Malaysia.

“We are very happy to confirm Yonny because he immediately proved his enthusiasm for and confidence in our team and in Ducati,” he said. “He has great potential but not much experience with this type of bike, and we will do everything in our power to transform his potential into good results.

“We know that the work that awaits us will be long and hard, but we expect to achieve success through dedication and determination.”

Iannone will remain on a Factory specification Desmosedici in his second season of MotoGP.
