Australian Jack Miller set the pace during Moto3 testing at Jerez in Spain late last week, on debut with the factory Red Bull KTM Ajo team.

The hard-charging Cairns youngster commenced preparations for his third full Moto3 season and first with KTM in convincing fashion, ending the proceedings quickest with a 1m47.290.

“I feel very comfortable with the KTM, both with the engine and the chassis,” Miller said. “I expected it to be more difficult to adapt, but the truth is that it went pretty well. We have to keep working, but I’m happy with how everything is going so far.

“This has turned to be another good day of testing at Jerez. I’ve tried many different things out with the bike, both in terms of new parts and some that had already been evaluated. I’ve found a better feeling with the bike in different situations.

“The day has been good, with a good lap time at the end, despite the wind. I’ve been experimenting with different parts and, at the end, I had a small crash without any consequences. The final verdict on these two days is very good and I’m hoping to be back riding at Almeria.”

Slotting in behind Miller was new teammate Danny Kent upon return from Moto2 and Rookies Cup standout Karel Hanika.

South Australian Arthur Sissis was sixth quickest in his first appearance with Mahindra Racing, setting a 1m48.574.

In Moto2 it was Interwetten Paddock Moto2 Racing’s Tom Luthi who topped the charts, while Australian Anthony West made his first laps on the 2014 Speed Up but suffered motor problems.

New faces in the field included Moto3 World Champion Maverick Viñales in 16th, trailed by American Superbike Champion Josh Herrin and Luis Salom.
