Thirteen riders took part in the one-off Australasian Road Racing Championships (ARRC) this weekend at Phillip Island, which ran alongside the V8 Supercars Championship Series.

Taking out the ARRC crown was 2008 and 2011 Australian Superbike Champion Glenn Allerton on his Next Gen Motorsports BMW HP4 after dominating the weekend.

After snaring pole position and two faultless victories Allerton was wrapped to bring home the number one trophy.

“It’s been a great weekend,” beamed Allerton. “It’s always a good opportunity to come and race in front of a big crowd with events such as the V8 Supercars and we used the track time this weekend to better the bike.

“I would have liked to have gone a little bit faster, but the track was just a little bit dirty from time to time – that’s because you have the cars leaving rubber.

“Any track time in front of a crowd like this, I’ll take it. Once again the Pirelli tyres and the BMW worked great, and I can’t thank the team enough for their effort.”

Allerton’s younger team mate Ben Nicolson who was having his second outing on a superbike made it a Next Gen BMW 1-2 when he came home second in both races.

Rounding out the top three in the superbike class was the 2011 Victorian Supersport Champion Dean Oughtred on his Motospares Yamaha R6.

“I’ve had a really good time here this weekend,” said Oughtred. “To race in front of a big crowd and at such a great race track, there is no better way to spend a weekend.”

The only big drama for the weekend was in race two when 17-year old Cam Russell lost the rear end of his Yamaha R6 at Lukey Heights, which resulted him being knocked out. He was later declared with two broken vertebras and a broken hand.

In the BEARS class it was Phil Czaj (Czaj Racing) taking the spoils on his Aprilia RSV4. John Phelan and Richard Ellis rounded out the podium.

The Prostock class was a tie between Stephen Mion (Bulleen Health and Fitness) and Rich Jenner, both on 47 points. Jenner took the win on a count back.
