Team Gardner Racing has concluded its 2013 racing schedule, with brothers Remy and Luca Gardner contesting the CEV Repsol at Jerez and CMV at Motorland Aragon last weekend.

With just one day of testing at Jerez prior to the CEV final Remy took time to get to grips with the historic Spanish circuit, but qualified 10th after two patchy qualifying sessions.

Despite crashing in the first turn and remounting 20 seconds in arrears of the field, an admirable performance saw him surge back up to 24th.

“I’m extremely disappointed this happened in the final race of the year,” said Remy. “I haven’t had much experience at Jerez and I’d hoped to get some more time on the track in this race and be able to stay with the front group to finish the season with another good result.

“As always my team [Calvo/Laglisse] were a huge support this weekend and I’d like to thank every single one of them for giving me the opportunity to do my best this year.

“I’ve definitely had my share of race incidents to learn from this season, so I’m now just focusing on 2014 and am looking forward to improving my overall results.”

In the championship standings Remy finished the season in a promising 16th overall.

Luca grabbed a career-first pole position and second at the Motorland CMV round, in what was his first visit to the circuit after a string of injuries.

European Superstock rider Dakota Mamola – son of former 500cc Grand Prix runner Randy Mamola – was on hand to assist Luca while father Wayne Gardner was at Jerez with Remy.

“It was great having Dakota with me and he taught me a lot,” Luca said. “I don’t think I could have got such a good result without him. My team Briefing Competició have been fantastic to me this year and I want to thank them all for the hard work and support they have given me.

“I’m really happy to finish the year on the podium, and get my first pole position.”

The podium at Motorland amounted in third place overall for Luca in the CMV standings.

“I’m very proud of both boys’ achievements this year,” Wayne Gardner commented. “They’ve worked hard and learned a great deal, and both have stepped up another level.

“Our goal when relocating from Australia was to give them the opportunity to compete against the toughest competition available in order for them to learn from the best. They’ve both come so far this season and I couldn’t have asked for more from either of them.”
