Multiple World Supersport race winner Luca Scassa has tested the new EVO-spec ZX-10R at a recent two-day test at Jerez with Team Pedercini Kawasaki.

The 30-year-old Italian from Arezzo was impressed by the new bike and reckons the new EVO class will be a success next year.

“I got a call last Saturday,” Scassa told WorldSBK.com. “They asked me to try the EVO bike and I accepted, since I still haven’t finalised my plans for next year. My first impression was very good, yesterday I did 30 laps and today I will be back on track.

“The bike is fun to ride, even on a twisty track like Jerez. I’m sure it’ll be a good category. The EVO bike is the right compromise, as it’s a Superbike with stock engine and ECU. There are limited adjustments and modifications you can make, so I think team and rider’s abilities will play a major role in the future,” Scassa added.

For 2013, Scassa returned to the World Supersport Championship riding a Kawasaki ZX-6R for team Intermoto Ponyexpres after a one year stint in BSB. Scassa then made the move to MotoGP, standing in for injured rider Karel Abraham as part of the Cardion AB Team for the final five races of the season.

Scassa is still evaluating his opportunities for 2014, but is confident an agreement will be made imminently.

“I hope to finalise my plans during the weekend or next week at last. I need to start focusing on training for next season. The options are crystal clear now, we just have to choose the best one not only for 2014, but for the following years as well,” said Scassa.
