MV Augusta has announced that Italian Claudio Corti will lead its full factory-backed return to the World Superbike Championship in 2014.

The famous Italian racing marque, last week confirmed its move into the Superbike class, partnering up with Russian outfit Yakhnich Motorsport.

Three-time runner runner-up in the FIM Superstock 1000, Corti has just finished a season competing in MotoGP aboard the Forward FTR Kawasaki CRT machine.

“Once I got this proposal I had no doubt on what to choose,” beamed Corti. “I am honored to represent such a powerful brand like MV Agusta, who is officially back to racing to be a protagonist, and at the same time I feel a big responsibility on my shoulders.”

Joining Vladimir Leonov in the Supersport class aboard the MV Augusta F3RR will be Jules Cluzel, who marks his comeback to WSS after a year stint in the Superbike class. The Frenchman aims to challenge for top positions in the series that saw him runner-up in 2012.

“This is my chance to win the title after the near-miss of 2012. I’m now part of a great project, with the title winning team and the F3, which is a very competitive bike,” said Cluzel.

Both Cluzel and Leonov will look to defend Yaknich’s 2013 WSS title, achieved by Sam Lowe’s on a Yamaha.
