Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions has released a heavily revised three-day race format for the newly rebranded Australasian Superbike Championship Series (ASC).

The previously-named FX Championship will be more streamlined in an attempt to improve the race meetings not only for competitors, but also spectators.

Under the new format all classes will receive the same three-race format as it was this year, however qualifying is to be replaced by the same system that the British Superbikes (BSB) employ.

“Friday will see all classes get four 15-minute practice sessions followed by an 18-minute qualifying session at the end of the day to decide the starting position for race one on Saturday,” an announcement from ARTRP general manager Terry O’Neill said.

“Same as it has happened throughout this year the finishing order in the races will decide the grid position for the following race.

“Here is the big change, now your fastest lap time from Saturday’s racing will be your grid position for the first race Sunday. Then again your grid position will be determined by the finishing order of the previous race.”

The idea behind this is that racing will be able to begin earlier on race-day due to qualifying being replaced by a five minute warm up.

“One of the good things about this is it allows us to start racing at or just prior to 10am, this will provide us with more track time which will be put to good use,” O’Neil added.

Round one of the newly formed ASC series will get underway at Wakefield Park Raceway on 14-16 March 2014.
