Reigning Australian Supersport Champion Daniel Falzon is recovering from a broken leg sustained at Mallala on Saturday.

The 19-year-old broke his left fibula and damaged ligaments in his ankle, after his foot slipped off around the sweeping Turn Six at close to 200 km/h.

“Unfortunate day at Mallala today,” he confirmed on Facebook. “My foot slipped off the gear-lever around the long sweeper (6) and hit the ground at close to 200km/h, twisting my ankle around.

“I have a broken fibula and damaged ligaments in my ankle, possible surgery tonight. Luckily I didn’t come off the bike!”

X-rays later confirmed Falzon’s injury was a clean-brake to the fibula, not requiring surgery for a full recovery.

Coming off the back of two consecutive titles, Falzon is yet to confirm his plans for the 2014 season.
