Australia will have two riders competing in this year’s Malaysian Superbike Series (MSS), ASBK regulars Chas Hern and Hudson Pitt confirmed for the six-round championship.

Hern will fly over to Malaysia around mid-January to test for a privateer team at the Sepang International Circuit. He’s slated to ride a Kawasaki ZX-10R, while Pitt will ride a Yamaha YZF-R6.

However, if the pair don’t get along with their respected Malaysian machinery, Hern will pack up a GSX-R1000 and 600 and send them across to Malaysia for the series.

“[We] will do the test first then will sit down and think about what we want to do and go from there,” said Hern.

Pitt is excited to return to Malaysia for racing as, like Hern, he has previous experience competing in the country.

“I’m super excited to get back over there,” said Pitt. “Last time I raced in Malaysia I learnt so much. I’m sure I will learn more as the riders over there are really fast and you have to be on you have to be on your ‘A’ game if you want to run at the front. I can’t wait!”

At Phillip Island on 2 January, Hern was testing out a new Clake clutch/rear brake system on his CM Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000.

“I think it’s got a good potential to be a good thing,” Hern added. “Mick Doohan went through his career running a thumb brake after his crash, so I just have to get used to the new system.

“We’re just in trail period at the moment, every time we go out were making small changes and getting a lot of feedback from it. We’re making improvements every session.”

A noted privateer contender in the Australian Superbike Championship last year, Hern is yet to confirm his domestic plans for the 2014 season.
