Factory MotoGP riders confirmed for Phillip Island test

Honda, Yamaha and Ducati teams scheduled for March test in Australia.

MotoGP World Championship testing will commence early next month when the current testing ban is lifted, as teams prepare to open the 2014 season with three days at Sepang in Malaysia.

There has been no MotoGP track action since the high profile tests that immediately followed the final race of 2013 at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo Circuit.

Sepang will host the opening tests on 4-6 February and more at the end of the month on 26-28 February, before factory Repsol Honda, Yamaha and Ducati team riders will conduct a vital tyre test at Phillip Island on 3-5 March.

The tyre test will take place just two days before teams gather at Qatar’s Losail Circuit for the final pre-season tests of the year, meaning Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow will miss that outing due to their Phillip Island commitments.

Phillip Island’s Bridgestone test has been put in place following a dramatic Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix in 2013, when tyres were unable to go the race distance following the high-speed Victorian venue’s resurface.

Moto2 and Moto3 will share Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit from 10-13 February, plus two visits to Jerez on 18-20 February and 11-13 March, respectively.
