Australia won’t be represented in the 2014 eni FIM Superbike World Championship full time this season, according to provisional entry lists released by the FIM.

Last season saw two riders – Matt Davies and 2012 national champion Mitchell Carr – included in the provisional supersport entry lists and complete much of the season, before experienced internationals Mark Aitchison and Broc Parkes made guest superbike appearances later in the year.

Regular Aussies in the series will be absent altogether however when the series starts at Phillip Island on 21-23 February, although World Supersport wildcards by Davies, Ryan Taylor and UK-based South Australian Billy McConnell will provide local fans riders to follow during the race weekend.

It’s a concerning trend for Australia on the world stage, just five seasons following Troy Bayliss’ final world championship victory in 2008. Between Bayliss and Troy Corser (both pictured), Aussies have won five titles since WSBK’s inception in 1988.

Australia has also previously won four World Supersport titles, courtesy of Andrew Pitt, Chris Vermeulen and Karl Muggeridge – the country recognised for producing some of the finest talent in WSBK’s history.

In MotoGP Australia will have Parkes on the grid, as well as longtime Moto2 racer Anthony West. The Moto3 field will be bolstered by rising stars Jack Miller and Arthur Sissis.
