A field of 35 national Superbike and Prostock competitors will open the inaugural Phillip Island Championship next weekend on 21-23 February.

The Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit has joined forces with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation to launch the championship, the title chase to commence at the Australian round of World Superbikes and conclude at the MotoGP round on 17-19 October.

The new-look three-rider Team Honda Racing outfit announced late last night (click here for details) will be spearheaded by Australian Superbike Champion Wayne Maxwell in his return to the brand alongside Jamie Stauffer and Josh Hook.

All four Honda riders will be aboard Honda’s brand new CBR1000RR SP, the up-spec model that will be released in limited numbers for 2014. Maxwell will feature Motul backing, the others in the traditional Team Honda Racing colours.

Next Gen Motorsports will be on deck with BMW-mounted Glenn Allerton who, like Stauffer, is himself a two-time ASBK title winner.

Other high quality names in the field include Mike Jones in his national Superbike debut aboard the Crazy Dogs Kawasaki ZX-10R, as well as Ben Burke on one of many ZX-10Rs in the field.

Reigning Australian Prostock Champion Matt Walters (Kawasaki) will headline the 15-rider Prostock ranks within the Superbike races, joined by fellow Australasian Superbike Championship (ASC) standouts Chris Trounson (Honda), Dustin Goldsmith (Kawasaki) and lap record holder Sean Condon (Kawasaki).

The superbike field at Phillip Island will combine with 15 Prostock riders to produce a 35-strong grid to compete in the two 12-lap races, while Australian Supersport competitors will contest two 10-lap battles.

A class Supersport field is also taking shape, featuring national champion Daniel Falzon (Yamaha) alongside Aaron Morris (Yamaha), Michael Blair (Yamaha), Callum Spriggs (Yamaha), Aiden Wagner (Yamaha) and Matt Davies (Yamaha).

Phillip Island’s QBE round of the World Superbike Championship is big value, with action and entertainment for all the family. There’s 14 races from six categories on the program including world championship classes WSBK and WSS alongside the Phillip Island Championship categories.

Historics for the veterans and the MRRDA juniors for 12-16 year-olds will also be on track across the weekend. In addition, dirt bike action is free for all with ArenaCross happening both Saturday and Sunday on the new circuit behind Lukey Heights.

A three-day pass purchased in advance is just $99 for an adult, with children 15 and under free if accompanied by a full paying adult. The $99 deal ends next Wednesday, 19 February, at 2:00pm so get it now to secure your family passes (three-day pass $150 at gate).

Trackside camping is also a bargain $80 per adult purchased in advance ($110 at gate) for four nights under the stars. Children 15 and under, accompanied by a full paying adult, are free.

BarSBK is available for $250 for three days (only available in advance) with undercover, licensed viewing areas at three of the circuit’s best viewing areas – Doohan Corner, Siberia and Lukey Heights.
