Voltcom Crescent Suzuki rider Alex Lowes admits that a dream of his was realised today upon debut in Phillip Island World Superbike testing.

The current British Superbike Champion and twin brother of World Supersport Champion Sam Lowes was impressive at the high-speed Victorian venue, setting a 1m31.000 aboard his factory GSX-R1000.

That effort slotted Lowes into the top five in a sterling day for Suzuki, as new teammate Eugene Laverty set the early benchmark at the top of the timesheets.

“It’s an awesome track,” Lowes said. “It’s a track that I have dreamed of racing on since I was a kid, watching Mick Doohan in the ’90sa race around here and obviously Casey Stoner was awesome around here.

“I was really looking forward to it and it didn’t disappoint. The last corner I love, the third corner – Stoner Corner – is probably one of the best corners I’ve ever ridden around, it’s great. It’s quite difficult to learn because of the speed, but it’s a fantastic track and a perfect setting.”

Lowes will continue his Phillip Island initiation tomorrow ahead of his official fulltime WSBK debut on Friday in the opening practice of the 2014 season.
