Townsville’s Jack Miller has smashed the existing Jerez lap record during Moto3 World Championship testing on Wednesday, continuing as the benchmark for Red Bull KTM Ajo.

Miller’s fastest lap of 1m46.278 was well beneath Alex Rins’ record of 1m46.660 set last year, now 0.367s ahead of rookie teammate Karel Hanika.

“Today was a really good day,” he said. “We managed to test a lot of parts from KTM and it was a very productive day again. The circuit record is a bonus and also I feel really comfortable as well, so we are very happy with the progress we are making.

“It just shows that we are getting quicker and quicker, step by step. It’s too early to say it if we will improve that lap time tomorrow or not. We also have a limited number of tyres, so it’s going to be difficult.

“If we have another nice day with weather like this, then I think we will have a good chance.”

Arthur Sissis dropped to 21st on the timesheets riding for Mahindra, 1.699s from Miller.

In Moto2 Queenslander Anthony West was 25th despite being within a second and a half of leader Thomas Luthi, whose best lap was a 1m42.525.
