Team InsureMyRide Racing’s Glenn Scott has confirmed his team will switch to the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship fulltime in 2014, contesting both the Superbike and Formula Oz categories aboard a CBR1000RR SP.

Scott, who won last year’s ASBK Privateer Cup, is the latest to defect to the Swann Series, debuting at yesterday’s Wakefield Park test where he was fourth fastest overall.

“I’m massively excited for the 2014 race season,” Scott said. “I believe the move across to the Australasian Superbike Championship is a positive step forward for me, my team and sponsors.

“Terry O’Neill has formed a very strong and reliable championship that gains maximum exposure for all competitors and has given the sport some light at the end of the tunnel.

“I’m so lucky to have amazing support from InsureMyRide and Honda again this year. With their help it has given me the opportunity to be on the grid again this year and be competitive. My main focus is the premier class – Superbikes – but I’m excited to have the opportunity to run in Formula Oz also.

“I’ve been training very hard with Stephen Mion from Fitmoto and I feel I will be in great physical shape to tackle two categories.”

Team InsureMyRide Racing kick-started their year yesterday at Wakefield Park at the series’ official test day.

“It was fantastic to turn some laps around Wakefield Park yesterday in preparation for round one,” Scott added. “My Honda FireBlade was working really well. I exceeded my expectations by setting a fast consistent lap times within one second of the current lap record.

“It was very positive for myself and the team after working so hard to get bikes built and on track before round one.”

Luke Smith, business development manager of InsureMyRide, was excited to again partner with Scott in his new journey into the Australasian Superbike Championship. Following his privateer success in 2013, Smith believes the team have what it takes to again return to the top.

“InsureMyRide is very proud to confirm its continued support of Glenn Scott and our campaign with Team InsureMyRide Racing,” Smith said. “Superbikes are a natural fit for a specialist motorcycle insurer, like InsureMyRide.”

O’Neill welcomed Scott to the series, which has emerged as the country’s most elite motorcycle road racing championship for 2014.

“It is excellent news that young Glenn Scott, one of Australia’s brightest rising stars is racing in this year’s Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship,” O’Neill said.

“I have watched Glenn’s progress over the years and he is a great talent and I have no doubt that he is bound for greatness in this sport and even though this year’s series is jam packed with many of Australia’s best big bike racers, I bet Glenn will be up there challenging for podiums from the get go on his Honda.”

Round one of the 2014 Swann Series takes place at Wakefield Park, NSW, from 14-16 March.
