The third and final day of the Bridgestone/Dunlop tyre testing at Phillip Island has come to a close, with Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo topping the time charts yet again.

On what was an overcast and windy day with a little bit of light drizzle, Lorenzo recorded a time of 1m29.068 on his 54th and final lap, which was his fastest lap time for the whole three days of testing.

Lorenzo’s lap time was 0.390 seconds faster than fellow Spainish rider Dani Pedrosa on the lone Repsol Honda at the test.

“Today has been different compare to the last two days,” said Lorenzo. “The weather has been so much colder. And the wind was quite strong as well which made me have to slow down in some corners because the bike turns less.

“So the lap time was harder to get than the other days. However I made the best lap time of the three days in the last half hour which was nice.

“I think where happy enough with the amount of data we have received and with all the other riders. We will be able to decide on a good tyre come October.”

Third fastest for today was nine times world champion Valentino Rossi, who laid down a 1m29.554 and regarded the day as his ‘best’ day. He was also happy because the conditions today would be kind of like what they will face come October.

“Today was very good,” Rossi reflected. “It’s been the best for me, first of all because the condition is a lot more similar to what we will have in the grand prix later this year.”

Rossi also tried the all new fairing that was seen on Lorenzo’s bike during the test from Tuesday.

“I liked it a lot,” he added. “Especially with the wind is quite good as it helps to keep the bike more planted on the ground. So the bike is easier to ride. I am in a better shape and the pre-season is a lot more positive than last year.

“I was strong in Sepang and also fast here. Last year I had a lot more problem. We have improved the bike and I have a better feeling so I can now ride more at the limit.”

Ducati’s Cal Crutchlow was fourth fastest with a time of 1m29.606, stating that he could have gone even faster if conditions were improved.

“Our overall lap time we could have gone a lot faster,” said Crutchlow. “The bike was quite affected by the wind today, a lot more than what I expected. In the end we made a few small changes and we were able to make the bike feel a little bit better when I did my race simulation.”

Crutchlow however aborted his race simulation after 18 laps when he had front-end issues with the tyre. Ducati teammate Andrea Dovizioso was fifth fastest with a time of 1m30.101 today.

Tito Rabat was the fastest Moto2 rider with Jordi Torres second and Finland’s Mika Kallio third. Nicolas Terol was fourth fastest.
