Monster Energy Tech 3 Yamaha MotoGP rookie Pol Espargaro has undergone successful surgery on his fractured left collarbone in Barcelona, following the crash he suffered in Qatar on Sunday night.

Within the next 48 hours the Spaniard should be able to commence rehabilitation, in order to be ready for the first grand prix of 2014 in less than two weeks.

Barcelona specialist Dr. Xavier Mir carried out the operation on the Moto2 World Champion at the Quiron Dexeus University Hospital, putting a titanium plate on the injured collarbone.

An overnight stay at the hospital will be required for Espargaro, though within 48 hours the 22-year-old rider should be able to begin light rehab.

The aim for Espargaro is to participate in his first premier class grand prix in the best possible physical condition, having been unlucky enough to crash and injur himself only two weeks before his MotoGP debut.
