Townsville’s Jack Miller was third fastest during the first day of Moto3 World Championship testing at Jerez on Tuesday, the final test of the 2014 pre-season.

Romano Fenati led the way with a 1m47.348, a tenth ahead of Red Bull KTM Ajo rookie Karel Hanika and teammate Miller – the duo focusing on testing parts before the season commences.

“It was a good day, not so bad overall,” Miller said. “We experimented with a lot of stuff but we couldn’t really find a good setting – the wind was really affecting us a lot. In the last session I had a technical issue, so I had to sit out the rest of the day when we still had some of stuff to try out.

“However, we still have another two days left. We have to improve the feeling with the front a bit in these conditions, but we’re waiting on better weather tomorrow in any case. We’ll see how things go over the remaining days and then head to Qatar.”

Arthur Sissis was 19th for Mahindra Racing, 1.658s off the pace of Fenati at the front.

In Moto2 it was Takaaki Nakagami fastest with a 1m42.587 ahead of Tom Luthi and World Supersport Champion Sam Lowes. Aussie veteran Anthony West was 21st, 1.499s from the leader.
