Kawasaki Connection’s Matt Walters is hoping to salvage his Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship season after a difficult weekend at Wakefield Park on Sunday.

The current ASC number one plate holder suffered a heavy crash in Sunday’s opening 11 lapper, before a technical glitch in race two sidelined him during race two. He bounced back to 19th in race three, now languishing in 21st overall on two points.

“This is obviously not the start to the season that I envisaged or hoped for,” Walters commented. “This is not our favourite track because the big horsepower of the Ninja ZX-10R doesn’t really suit the track characteristics, but I was hoping to keep the bike on two wheels and come away with more points than I have.

“Plus a lack of off-season testing really showed. But I’m sure all the other guys will have a bad round somewhere along the way, I just need to put this behind me and come out strong at Mallala.”

On Saturday Walters was 11th in the FX-Superbike championship round, contested prior to the Swann Series main event.

The current ASBK Prostock Champion’s weekend ended on a highpoint during Sunday afternoon, awarded the prestigious RK Chains Samurai Award.
