Team InsureMyRide Racing’s Glenn Scott will move to ensure a stronger Australasian Superbike Championship qualifying result in the remaining rounds of the season after being unable to replicate his Saturday results from row two of the grid.

Scott stole the show in Saturday’s FX-Superbike action with pole position and the round win, however his fastest lap logged during the trio of races saw him forced to start from sixth on the grid for Sunday’s ASC championship opener.

That position proved costly for the second-year Superbike rider on debut aboard the CBR1000RR SP, struggling to make headway in a crowded mid-section of the top 10. He admits he’ll need to put more emphasis on lap times in Saturday’s racing in upcoming events.

“Starting from the second row on Sunday in the Superbike class was difficult,” Scott explained. “Wakefield Park is a tight, technical circuit and with the Superbike class being so competitive, passing places are near impossible.

“So that is something I definitely need to work on in the future is setting a quick time in racing on Saturday to ensure we are as far up the grid as possible for Sunday.”

While the grid position for Sunday is paramount, Scott insists that he’s not going to trade strong AFX-SBK results on Saturday simply to improve his Sunday starting spot.

“You enter a race to win, not to get a time,” he added. “What I would change in the future is when I do get a chance at the front, I’ll put my head down and push even harder for a fast lap while still trying to win the race.”

Despite his sixth overall on Sunday via 4-7-5 results, Scott was pleased with his weekend overall after also claiming victory in the Formula Oz ranks.

“The weekend was an incredible start to my 2014 season, with very fun competitive racing,” Scott said. “I have never been up against such a fierce field of riders.

“With the new SP Honda only turning up one week before the race, we were extremely pushed for time to bring everything together but with an amazing effort from my team we did it and the hard work put in certainly paid off.

“It was a great feeling to pull the results we did this weekend, I have been working hard on my physical fitness with Fitmoto which was a massive help to back up so many races in one weekend and be competitive in every one of them.”

The series will continue with round two in its debut at Mallala in South Australia on 16-18 May.
