Race Recap: Callum Spriggs

Wakefield Park ASC Supersport winner reflects on his weekend.

Teenager Callum Spriggs is on the rise in Australian motorcycle racing. The quietly-spoken Queenslander proved that last weekend at the opening Australasian Supersport round at Wakefield Park when he steered his Yamaha YZF-R6 to a 3-1-2 result and the overall round win. CycleOnline.com.au sat down with Callum to find out how his weekend went.

Callum, It’s definitely a solid way to start the championship. Consistently paid off and it must be a good feeling to get the first win of the season?

Yeah, definitely! The first win of the season sure has given me a lot of confidence for the year. I’m really happy with the whole weekend, it was an awesome weekend! I didn’t expect to win, that’s for sure.

I’m looking forward to the next round. I have never ridden at Mallala before, but might do a few test days before the round, so it should be good.

As far as the weekend goes, obviously you have had a tight battle with the likes of Aaron [Morris] and Aiden [Wagner], do you think that will be the case throughout the season?

It should be. But for the next round which is Daniel Falzon’s home round, so he should be up there, and it should be a four-way battle and whoever else is up there. I’m looking forward to it, should be fun to as the series gets to race on a new track.

As far as the Yamaha R6 goes, it’s the second year in the structure that you are in as far as the Supersport class goes. Are you feeling more at home this year, more confident and just more that you belong at the front there?

Definitely. Last year I was up the front, but I wasn’t fully up the front. I was sometimes there and then I wasn’t. This year I’m looking forward to being up the front consistently and get a few race wins along the way. I’m forward to a big year.

Well congratulations, good job and we will see you at Mallala.

Yeah thanks, sounds good.
