Reigning Australian Supersport Champion Daniel Falzon will have to opportunity to compete on the national level at home in South Australia for the first time since 2009 when the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship continues at Mallala.

Falzon was absent from the podium at Wakefield Park’s ASC opener, but after featuring as fastest Supersport in testing at Mallala this weekend will be a pivotal one for the Jon Daniels Racing Team/EPSA Yamaha rider.

“It’s the first time we’ve had a national race in South Australia since 2009,” Falzon explained. “Even back then, I wasn’t competing at a very high level. Over the last five years I’ve had people asking when I’m racing in SA next, so it will be great for my family and friends to see what a National race is really like.

“I’m going to be a lot more determined this round to prove to my friends and family, that our team is as good as we are. I’m going to be putting in 100 per ent and I feel that we are ready.”

Falzon is eager to make inroads to the points lead after finishing fourth overall at Wakefield Park to commence his Swann Series assault.

“I’ve done a lot of laps of Mallala in the past, but it’s always great to get out on an open track and come in whenever you feel. We got a lot of testing done [last] week on different tyres and a lot of race simulations as well,” he added.

“I’ve grown up with Mallala – I have done all my proving grounds there. I’ve found that when I have raced at other tracks my experience at Mallala with full-speed to braking has helped a lot, so I am thankful for the time I have had at that track.

“I think the few riders that finished before me at the last round had the advantage of some track experience, so it will be good to use my experience at Mallala to see what I can do. If we can stay consistent and not come off the bike then we will be very happy.

“I have no doubts that the other riders have the ability to win, they were fast in testing as I anticipated, however we’ve managed wins at their home tracks before so Mallala is fair game.”

The new-look ASC series will make its first visit to Mallala in South Australia this weekend, 17-18 May.
