Staring secures EVO seat for remainder of WSBK season

Grillini Kawasaki hands Australian a world championship lifeline.

Multiple Australian champion Bryan Staring has revealed he will complete the 2014 Superbike World Championship with Iron Brain Grillini Kawasaki in the EVO category.

Staring, 26, started the season in World Supersport with Rivamoto Honda at Phillip Island before financial troubles struck, sidelining him just one round into the season.

Since then Staring has made an appearance at the Bol d’Or 24 Hour opening round of the Endurance World Championship, but has now confirmed he will return to WSBK with the Grillini team, which has been fielding Michel Fabrizio and Sheridan Morais.

It’s understood Staring will take the place of Fabrizio, who has been consistently upstaged by South African teammate Morais within the EVO ranks aboard the ZX-10Rs.

However Staring is now facing a race against time to be fit for Donington Park in two weeks time after breaking his arm in a bicycle crash on Saturday. The incident has ruled Staring out of a scheduled debut test at Imola today.

Staring has a great history aboard Kawasaki’s ZX-10R, winning three Superstock 1000 FIM Cup races at Aragon, Brno and Portimao in 2012 before embarking on a difficult single season in MotoGP last year.

Round five of the 2014 WSBK season will take place at Donington Park in the UK on 23-25 May.
