Team Honda Racing’s Jamie Stauffer has set pole position for tomorrow’s second 2014 YMF-Loan Australian FX-Superbike Championship (AFX-SBK) round at Mallala in South Australia.

Stauffer posted a 1m06.922 during Friday afternoon’s lone qualifying session, which sets the grid for tomorrow’s AFX-SBK round ahead of Sunday’s Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship (ASC) races.

“I got a good time in early, so I decided to come in and save my tyres – the bike seemed to be going pretty good,” Stauffer said. “We still have some changes to make, but it’s looking good and we should make further progress tomorrow.”

The current ASC series leader was a significant 0.485s ahead of BikeBiz Kawasaki privateer Sean Condon, with Robbie Bugden (YRT with YMI) and Wayne Maxwell (Team Motul Honda) completing the front row despite a crash during the session.

Bugden, Maxwell and returning Team Honda Racing rider Josh Hook all posted 1m07.5 lap times, indicating a tight battle for the podium come tomorrow’s trio of premier class races.

Yet more rising talent filled positions six through 10, led by Cru Halliday (YRT with YMI) from Mike Jones (Crazy Dogs Kawasaki), Troy Herfoss (Team Honda Racing), Glenn Scott (Team InsureMyRide Racing Honda) and Rick Olson (YRT with YMI).

Glenn Allerton soldiered on to secure 15th on the grid for Saturday, 2.4s off the pole time of Stauffer as he recovers from recent knee surgeries.

In Supersport it was South Australia’s reigning Australian Supersport Champion who nabbed the pole position with a 1m09.065, edging out Aaron Morris and series leader Callum Spriggs, while Aiden Wagner made it an all-Yamaha front row.
