Even though Glenn Allerton is not back to 100 percent fitness with his knee, the New South Welshman still managed to nail pole for tomorrow’s third round of the YMF-Loan Australian FX-Superbike Championship.

Having only completed four laps, Allerton posted a 1m09.067s, which was a handy 0.242s quicker than Team Honda Racing’s Jamie Staffer, who will start out of position two.

“It’s great to score pole position,” expressed Alleron after qualifying. “To say I’m confident would be wrong, because I’m not confident at the moment.

“I’m not riding 100 percent within myself. The Dynotech Pirelli BMW HP4 is great and very fast, but I’m still not back to full strength yet.”

The previous category circuit ‘best lap’ was set by former Yamaha front-runner and eventual champion Broc Parkes in qualifying last year at 1m09.746.

The biggest talk thing of qualifying was the blissful sunset which caused a few headaches during the session which had a track temperature of 28 degrees.

“The sun was a bit hard on you in turn two, but everyone has to put up with the same thing,” Stauffer said. “The time we did in qualifying was the fastest we have gone so far all day, so we must be doing something right. We just have to try and keep moving forward.”

In third place was Motul Honda’s Wayne Maxwell, 0.122sec off his stablemate on the factory-supported CBR1000RR SP.

“I’m happy with third, seeing I only did a handful of laps,” Maxwell said. “To end third is okay, the tyres are good for the Sunday’s races.”

The first Queenslander was Crazy Dogs Kawasaki’s Mike Jones, while another Kawasaki pilot in Sean Condon was fifth on his Bikebiz Ipone Swann Insurance ZX-10R.

Directly behind Condon was Troy Herfoss (Team Honda Racing), while YRT Yamaha Motorcycle Insurance rider Robbie Bugden was seventh after coming off at turn two.

“I was pushing pretty hard; I was just trying to get that ‘lap’ in,” Bugden lamented. “I went a bit wide going into turn two and had the sun in my eyes and didn’t quite know where I was on the track.

“I tried to turn it back for the apex, but the front tyre would not have it and I went down. I gave the boys a bit of work to do tonight, but I know they’re a great team. I’m sure we will be right to go tomorrow.”

Bugden’s team mate Cru Halliday was eight, with Josh Hook and Honda privateer Glenn Scott rounding out the top 10.
