Maxima Yamaha/YRD/Bell/Alpinestars/Watson Demolition’s Aaron Morris swept the Supersport category in today’s YMF-Loan Australian FX-Superbike Championship round at Queensland Raceway.

Morris won the first of three races by just 0.075s from Daniel Falzon (Yamaha/Jon Daniels Racing/Caterpillar EPSA), with Callum Spriggs (Allsite Concrete Cutting/Hydro Construction/YRD/XXX Rated) a further 1.3 seconds in arrears.

As we’re so accustomed to witnessing, Aiden Wagner (Wagner Soil Testing/YRD/XXX Rated Suspension Yamaha) was in close formation for fourth after he fended off Chris Quinn (Coopers Pale Ale Yamaha/Holmes Extractive Resources/YRD).

Race two was again won by Morris, this time from Quinn by near two seconds, however it was a two-part race after a red flag stoppage involving Brayden Elliott and Thomas Brydan at turn four.

Behind Morris and Quinn was the Queensland duo of Wagner and Spriggs, with Wagner getting the better of his stablemate this time around. Falzon wound up eighth.

The round turned pear-shaped for Spriggs in race three however, crashing out at turn six on lap one and causing another red flag.

Upon restart it was Morris who sprinted to the front again, but another major crash caused a second red flag for a premature end to Saturday’s Supersport proceedings – as it also did during Mallala’s ASC round last time out.

Overall that left Morris as the victor in a sterling performance setting him up well for Sunday, however it was Falzon’s race one time of 1m12.294 that will see him start from pole tomorrow.

Completing the round podium was Quinn in his return to national competition, while Wagner was credited third overall tied on points with Spriggs, and Falzon fifth.

The worse news for Spriggs was still to come later, with confirmation arriving that he broke his collarbone in the crushing race three fall.

Justin Di Giandomenico (Indeco/Stafford Motorcycles/Wurth Australia Yamaha) was sixth after landing a top five in race two.

On Sunday the front row will be headed by Falzon from Spriggs – if he is fit to line up – then Morris and Quinn.
