An open testing opportunity for Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship contenders was struck by rain at Winton today, resulting in minimal track time for attending teams.

While Yamaha worked through mixed conditions earlier this week, track time on Friday was limited as bikes shared the circuit with the four-wheel motorsport variety in wet conditions.

Next Gen Motorsport BMW’s Glenn Allerton was scheduled to evaluate his HP4 at the northern Victorian venue, but opted to sit out altogether due to the changeable conditions.

“We went down and it started raining when we got there,” said Allerton. “It stopped, almost dried up, then it rained again and we didn’t get to turn any laps. The cars going around were helping to dry the track at one point, but it just wasn’t to be.

“We wanted to get some laps there with the new front tyre introduced at Queensland. It’s important to have a good front-end feel there, plus there are some shock settings we’re still chasing there.”

Other riders in attendance included Allerton’s teammate Ben Nicolson, Glenn Scott, Sean Condon, Jed Metcher, Aiden Wagner, Michael Blair and Matthew Harding – only select riders turning laps in the rain.
