Intermot's 2015 model introductions

An overview of the motorcycles released in Cologne overnight.

A wave of new models has hit overnight and aren’t there some great machines amongst them! Intermot is the first of Europe’s two big major motorcycle shows.

Held in Cologne, Germany, and commencing last night Australian time, the headlining act was Kawasaki’s supercharged H2R. As a track-only machine, Kawasaki has told us we will need to wait until the second of the shows – Italy’s EICMA in November – to see the road-legal production version.

You would be forgiven for thinking that the H2R was the only bike release at Intermot, but there were a lot more than that. Here we take a quick look at what has surfaced overnight with more details expected on the machines as they get closer to launch events and production.

2015 Kawasaki Ninja H2R:
Yep, a 296 horsepower, supercharged, production motorcycle. Running a 998cc liquid-cooled engine with a lot more power than any MotoGP racer, Kawasaki’s H2R is a closed circuit version of Kawasaki’s new marquee model – expect a production model to be released in the near future.

2015 BMW S 1000 RR:
BMW’s superbike has been revised in the styling, handling and engine to make give the S1000RR a sharper-look, 199hp (148kW) and a drop in 4kg of weight! There’s love of electronic gizmos and the chassis is tweaked for better handling.

2015 Suzuki GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F:
Suzuki has slotted the ’05-08 GSX-R100 engine and built a hard-edged nakedbike. They’ve also thrown a fairing on it and created a sports-tourer in the GSX-S1000F. The engine is tuned for the street and it has three switchable engine modes. It also has ABS and traction control – not even the GSX-R1000 has that!

2015 Ducati Scrambler:
In the same vein as the SportClassics a few years ago and the MH900e before that, Ducati has built a modern day interpretation of a classic in the Ducati Scrambler. Purists will argue it should be a single, instead of a twin, but no one can deny just how cool it looks!

2015 Yamaha YZF-R1:
Instead of taking the wraps off the new R1, Yamaha announced it will take the wraps off its highly anticipated 2015 model at the EICMA Show in Italy on 3 November. So just like Kawasaki with the H2R, a teaser film has been released. Here we go again!

2015 Suzuki GSX-R1000 ABS:
Suzuki has added ABS to the GSX-R for 2015, a move expected ahead of 2016 and Euro requirements for motorcycles over 125cc to be fitted with ABS. The other change is MotoGP-inspired livery and a new black colour option.

2015 KTM Freeride E-SM:
KTM has extended its Freeride E range to now include the E-SM. It might be electric, but with a single-gear 42Nm engine, weighing 108kg, there’s a lot of performance there for a motard! The E-SM joins the E-SX motocrosser and E-XC enduro.

2015 BMW R 1200 R:
Sharper, leaner and meaner than ever before, BMW has brought the latest generation Boxer engine to the R1200R nakedbike.

2015 BMW R 1200 RS:
The return of the legendary RS model name marks the return of BMW’s twin-cylinder sports-tourer that, like the R1200R, is running the latest generation Boxer engine.

2015 Suzuki Bandit 1250 S:
Suzuki’s steadfast sports-tourer is back again with tweaked styling that changes the look and improves aerodynamics around the rider.

2015 Triumph Street Triple RX:
With quickshifter, radial-mounted Nissin brakes and Daytona-inspired styling, the Street Triple RX is a meaner looking and sharper performing nakedbike.

2015 Yamaha MT-07 Moto Cage:
Inspired by stuntriding, the twin-cylinder Moto Cage is another exciting addition to the MT range that would be an absolute weapon on the city streets!

2015 Aprilia Caponord Rally:
The Rally is Aprilia’s off-road version of the Caponord and has a host of protective panels, a bigger fuel tank, wire wheels and larger screen to tailor it more to adventure riding.

2015 KTM Super Adventure:
Running the same engine as the Super Duke R, the 1301cc 1290 Super Adventure engine has been tuned for the different nature of Adventure riding. As such the engine is rolled back to 160hp but there’s still 140Nm of torque available! The Super Adventure gets cornering ABS, hill start assist, cruise control and an adaptive headlight that turns as the bike leans. Heated seat and grips, a massive 30-litre tank and electronic suspension.

2015 Suzuki V-Strom 650XT:
The baby Strom goes more off-road with the new XT carrying wire wheels and styling like the new V-Strom 1000 ABS. Expected to land early next year, it’s another great addition to the booming middleweight adventure market.

2015 Moto Guzzi V7 II:
Moto Guzzi’s latest incarnation of the V7 gets traction control and ABS as well as a change to the engine position to increase space for the rider.

2015 Kawasaki Versys 650 and 1000:
Both Versys models have come in for an update with the 100 getting a predominately cosmetic makeover. The 650 gets a boost in top-end performance and revised suspension. The brakes have been improved and the styling update makes for a larger windscreen, more fuel payload and better aerodynamics, as they do on the 1000.

2015 Yamaha XJR1300:
The XJR is back with a styling update. The new look is mated to the big four-cylinder 1250cc engine the XJR has always run. And it wouldn’t be an XJR without the Ohlins equipped chassis of course.
