Moto2 World Champion Tito Rabat (Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS) was the top man on Monday in the intermediate class test at Valencia.

The Spaniard produced a best time of 1m35.287 to top the timesheet ahead of German rider Jonas Folger (AGR Team) and Japanese rider Takaaki Nakagami (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia).

Taking advantage of the good conditions at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia Rabat continued his 2015 preseason work as he seeks to become the first rider to retain the title in the class since its restructuring as Moto2.

Behind Rabat, Folger and Nakagami, Spaniard Luis Salom (Paginas Amarillas HP 40) and Finn Mika Kallio – with his new team Italtrans Racing – were also in the top five.

Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS’s Moto2 rookie and Moto3 World Champion Alex Marquez continued his adaptation to 600cc machinery, though he suffered a light crash on Monday.

There were also crashes without consequences for Salom, Thitipong Warokorn, Axel Pons, Ricky Cardus and Randy Krummenacher.

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Karel Hanika was the fastest Moto3 representative on track in Valencia on Monday, as the lightweight class riders shared a day of testing with their Moto2 counterparts in Spain.

There were combined sessions for both classes and one individual session for the Moto3 riders only, with Hanika’s standout lap of the day (1m39.337) putting him half a second ahead of next best rider Niccolo Antonelli (Ongetta-Rivacold) and six tenths ahead of third placed Miguel Oliveira (Red Bull KTM Ajo).

The FIM CEV Repsol Moto3 title winner of the last two years Fabio Quartararo won two races at Valencia over the weekend and he began testing with his Estrella Galicia 0,0 team on Monday though his best lap time was not released.

Likewise SKY Racing Team VR46’s Romano Fenati tested alongside new teammate Andrea Migno, but their lap times were not published, as the team work with a new KTM machine for 2015.

Niklas Ajo (Boe41 RBA Team) and rookie Jorge Martin (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3) both crashed without any significant consequence. Juanfran Guevara (Mapfre Aspar Team Moto3) was attended to by the circuit medical staff after taking a blow to his foot, with the rider later heading to a Valencia hospital for an X-ray.

Testing continues tomorrow at Valencia.
