Team Honda Racing’s Jamie Stauffer has claimed the overall victory in today’s final YMF Loan Australian FX-Superbike Championship (AFX-SBK) round at Sydney Motorsport Park.

While Stauffer reigned supreme at the front of the premier class field – also securing pole position for Sunday’s Swann Series finale – teammate Wayne Maxwell (Team Motul Honda) did enough to claim the Saturday championship.

“I wasn’t worried about today, it’s all about tomorrow and we’ve tried a lot of stuff,” Stauffer said. “We will see how we end up tomorrow and go from there.”

Maxwell commented: “The Honda was great and a massive thanks to my mechanic Warren – it’s always good to win a championship. Tomorrow’s a new day, that’s when it counts so hopefully we can get away strong and get it done for Sunday.”

Race one was all Stauffer at the front, winning by 2.402s over a fast-finishing Mike Jones (Crazy Dogs Kawasaki), Glenn Allerton (Next Gen Motorsports BMW), Cru Halliday (Yamaha Racing Team) and Troy Herfoss (Team Honda Racing).

The second race saw Jones pick up his maiden Superbike race win, edging Stauffer to the line by 0.101s after making his way by mid-race, with Josh Hook (Team Honda Racing), Maxwell and Sean Condon (Bikebiz Racing Kawasaki) completing the top five.

Like race one this morning, the third race was red flagged in the closing stages with Stauffer at the front, eventually restarting with a four-lap sprint.

After the restart, it was Hook who won the race ahead of Stauffer, while third and fourth for Maxwell and Herfoss respectively made it a Honda 1-2-3-4 to finish today’s proceedings. Allerton fought to fifth.

Overall it was Stauffer the round winner from Hook and Jones, as fourth was enough for Maxwell to seal the crown. Allerton ended up fifth for Saturday.

Maxwell won the championship, 41 points clear of Herfoss, followed by rookie standout Jones, Stauffer and Yamaha Racing Team’s Robbie Bugden.
