Confidence-boosting World Supersport debut for Scott at Phillip Island

Scott secures his first two world championships points.

Glenn Scott has had a strong start to this World Supersport campaign on home soil, becoming quickly acquainted to the new challenge of competing against some of the best riders from around the globe, securing his first two World Championships points of his career as he now begins to embark on the International leg of the Championship.

With just two days aboard the AARK Racing Honda Supersport bike prior to official sessions at Phillip Island, Glenn looked to make the most of his limited seat time to prepare himself for the impending challenge. Whilst ever improving throughout free practice, qualifying saw the Central Coast rider secure 18th for Sunday’s races with the opportunity to secure round points well in sight.

“My first experience on the World stage was one I certainly won’t forget. It was a massive week at Phillip Island with two days of official testing and round one of the World Supersport Championship.”

“The week was a big a learning curve for me but the Honda 600 was fantastic to ride and I really started to feel comfortable on the bike by race day. Everyone from AARK Racing was fantastic to work with and really helped me get up to speed on the bike.”

“Every time we jumped on the bike we improved, our biggest set up gains came in qualifying, where we improved our lap time by one second putting us 18th on the grid, only 1.9 seconds off pole position. The nerves were definitely running wild Sunday morning, being my first ever World Championship race,” Scott said.

Despite an early race error, a determined Scott fought his way back through the field throughout the 18 lap event, under warm conditions, the former Australian Privateer Superbike Champion gained six places to finish 14th, helping to secure his first two World Championship points just one month out from the second round of the series.

“My goals for Sunday’s race were to score World Championship points, on lap three, I thought this goal was almost unreachable, after making a mistake when I ran wide in turn one hitting the grass. I was lucky enough not to crash, I then re-entered the circuit in turn two.”

“It was a quick learning curve to never leave the door open as the riders at this level will take any opportunity to pass. This mistake cost me ten seconds but I quickly regathered myself and put my head down to go from 20th to finish 14th, taking two World championship points.”

“This was an unbelievable result for myself and AARK Racing and I can’t thank Andrew and Anthea Offer enough for this amazing opportunity,” Scott added. The progression to the World Supersport Championship brought with it the requirement for extensive preparation both on track and away from it. In addition to a fleet of ongoing sponsors making the weekend possible, Glenn credits a large proportion of his success to his physical fitness and training that allowed him to compete at his best throughout the whole weekend.

“I would like to thank Stephen Mion from Bulleen Health and Fitness, his training program allowed me to run my lap times within 0.3 seconds for 16 laps of the 18 lap race, he has put me in World Championship form. I would also like to thank Vaughn Cumming from MSC Moto for his help all week.”

“Also a big thank you to my sponsors who helped make this possible; OZ Motorcycle Leathers, GIMOTO, Shark Helmets, AXO Racing, Veolia Waste Management and AARK Racing. I can’t wait for round 2 in Thailand which will be another exciting challenge,” Scott concluded.

Round Two of the World Supersport Championship takes place at the Chang International Circuit, Buriram, Thailand from 20–22 March.
