Aussie improves Sepang best as MotoGP experience builds.
Australian MotoGP rookie Jack Miller improved his lap time on the third and final day of Sepang 2, the penultimate pre-season test of the year before the 2015 season gets underway.
Wednesday began in typical fashion at the scorching Malaysian circuit, with all riders heading quickly out onto the track at 10:00am to take advantage of the coolest part of the day.
It was at this time that CWM LCR Honda’s Miller set his best lap of the week, putting in an impressive 2m01.593s – three tenths quicker than Sepang 1 – before focusing on race set-up once more.
The Australian was taking part in his third test at the South-East Asian circuit during the winter and admitted that he felt ready to move on to another challenge, which he will get when the final test session takes place in Qatar just over a week before the start of the campaign.
“I’m really happy with how the test has gone and I have worked hard on the bike but also on myself in order to get more comfortable as the laps go on,” Miller said.
“We’re not too far off. I’m the second of the rookie riders out there, so that makes me happy because there are some other more experienced guys that have been used to bigger bikes behind me, so it’s good to be where we are.
“Of course, we’re still not quite as fast as we would like to be, but everybody’s putting out some really quick times so it’s not easy at the moment, but it’s good to feel like we’re making progress.
“For now I’m reasonably pleased overall, but I will admit that I’m looking forward to the next test in Qatar, which is a track that’s a different style and a bit more flowing. It will be good to get there and try out another circuit on this bike.”
Miller stays at the track tomorrow for one final day of testing, but on the Michelin tyres that will become the championship’s supplier from the 2016 season. For contractual reasons, no rider quotes will be available from that test.
