Form guide

The favourite:
Troy Herfoss – Armed with the dominant Team Honda Racing CBR1000RR SP that went 1-2-3 last season, Herfoss is in line to pick up where the team left off, especially for round one. Expect Herfoss to start with a bang in Sydney, because if he’s to stand a real chance at winning the title he needs to take advantage of the bike and team’s proven package from the outset.

The threat:
Wayne Maxwell – With two championships to his credit in 2014, Maxwell proved he was the strongest rider in the field. But now, to defend them he’s got to quickly adjust to a new team at Yamaha and on an all-new bike in the YZF-R1M. He can do it over the course of the season, but YRT has done minimal testing in the lead-up to round one.

The darkhorse:
Cru Halliday – While development at YRT will be key, the fact that Halliday is moving from the previous R1 on the same team sets him up for a strong showing even without much seat time on the new R1M. He’s thriving at the challenge of racing a competitive bike this year and has been quicker than both of his highly-credentialed teammates in testing.
