Wisconsin-based American news outlet Journal Sentinel is reporting that Erik Buell Racing (EBR) has closed and filed for receivership.

EBR, which was owned by former Buell Motorcycle Company boss Erik Buell and Indian motorcycle manufacturer Hero MotoCorp Ltd, currently fields a team in the Superbike World Championship with experienced Italian Niccolo Canepa and American team manager/rider Larry Pegram.

Local distributor Urban Moto Imports, which has supported Chas Hern in the Australian Superbike Championship with success this season on board an EBR 1190RX, has released a statement on the matter.

“Whilst there are speculative news reports on EBR’s current situation, we cannot report to you any official notifications of any changes,” the statement read. “So until such time it is business as usual for EBR in Australia and New Zealand. We will update you immediately once we have news from EBR head office in the USA.”

The original brand, Buell Motorcycle Company, was owned by Harley-Davidson for more than a decade before the manufacturer dropped the brand in 2009.
