Yamaha Racing Team with Yamaha Motorcycle Insurance’s Wayne Maxwell has clinched the pole position for Saturday’s second round of the 2015 Australian FX-Superbike Championship (AFX-SBK) at Mallala.

Maxwell will start Saturday’s opening race from the top spot on the grid after setting a benchmark lap time of 1m06.588s during this afternoon’s lone qualifying session.

Trailing Maxwell on the grid will be former Team Honda Racing teammates Troy Herfoss and Jamie Stauffer, who were two-tenths of a second off the leader’s pace.

Remaining YRT with YMI duo Glenn Allerton and Cru Halliday were fourth and fifth respectively, while Mike Jones, Ben Burke, Matthew Walters, Sean Condon and Linden Magee completed the top 10.

In Supersport it was Queensland talent Troy Guenther who rode his Kawasaki to pole position with a 1m08.852s, the sole rider beneath the 1m09s bracket in qualifying.

Second was Suzuki pilot Brayden Elliott, 0.745s in arrears, while trio of Yamahas Michael Blair, practice pace-setter Jay Presepio and Callum Spriggs rounded out the top five.

In his return to racing and comeback to the Supersport ranks, two-time champion Rick Olson gradually improved for 12th on the grid with a 1m11.681s on board the Kawasaki Connection ZX-6R.

The other pole positions of today belonged to Angus Reekie (Nakedbike), James Arnold (Pro-Twins), Daniel Parker (Formula Xtreme), Luke Burgess (FX300 Ninja Cup) and Danny Pottage (eFXC).
