Round two of the 2015 Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship is complete at Mallala, as Yamaha Racing Team with Yamaha Motorcycle Insurance’s Wayne Maxwell claimed a breakthrough win on the YZF-R1M.

Maxwell claimed the opening race win of today after a tight battle with Troy Herfoss, however it was cut short when Herfoss ran wide in the final laps and effectively handed the race win to Maxwell.

That left Maxwell to streak away ahead of YRT teammate Glenn Allerton and an impressive Sean Condon in third as the top of the Pro-Am entries, while Herfoss and Jamie Stauffer completed the top five.

Sixth was Ben Burke, who made his was past Cru Halliday in the closing moments, while Matt Walters, Mike Jones and Linden Magee filled the top 10 results.

Herfoss claimed a commanding win in race two of the round, ahead of Jones after he nabbed Stauffer for position in the closing laps.

The leading trio finished in formation at race’s end, a full five seconds ahead of fourth-placed Maxwell. He fended off and improved Halliday for position and Condon finishing in sixth place, just ahead of the in-form Ben Burke for seventh. Completing the top 10 was Allerton, Matthew Walters and Magee.

Lap one of the weekend’s final race was red-flagged when Magee crashed his Fireblade, resulting in a full restart for race three of the Superbikes following a slight delay.

When it resumed it was Stauffer who controlled it from the outset, winning in style ahead of a determined Maxwell who did make his way to the front at one stage, Allerton, Herfoss who put himself out of the running after going wide at turn five, a racy Jones, Condon, Halliday, Walters, Matthew Harding and Evan Byles.

Overall the round belonged to Maxwell from Stauffer and Herfoss on the podium. Those results see Herfoss remain at the top of the Superbike points, six ahead of Maxwell two rounds in.

In the YRD Supersport ranks it was Michael Blair who made it a perfect weekend with another overall win on Sunday, however this time he didn’t have it his own was at the front of the field across the trio of races.

An entertaining duel at the front of the opening Supersport race saw series leader Brayden Elliott take victory, fending off a charging Callum Spriggs, Saturday clean-sweeper Blair and a fast-finishing Jay Presepio.

Kyle Buckley was in the mix for much of the race on his way to fifth, while Troy Guenther recovered from Saturday difficulties for sixth, with Paul Young, Rick Olson, Mitch Levy and Brad Swallows completing the top 10 finishers.

The second Supersport race was red-flagged on lap three when Luke Mitchell and Buckley came together, as Mitchell was attended to by medical officials.

When the seven-lap restarted race got underway it was Elliott who led the opening lap. On track Blair crossed the line first, but it was Presepio who was the winner on combined times.

Presepio won ahead of Blair, Spriggs, Young, Guenther, Olson, Elliott, Swallows, Levy and Cambridge Olivier.
