Cycle 360

An all-access Australian view of road racing, presented by Alpinestars.

Australasian Superbike (FX-ASC) organisers announced last night that Sydney Motorsport Park’s season finale will be broadcast live on television in December – said to be the first time in 25 years that a standalone national level superbike race has aired live.

More recently we’ve had a number of Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) rounds live (or very close to live) when they were paired with the V8 Supercars events under International Entertainment Group (IEG) management, but as a standalone showing this is a first in a very long time.

The FX-ASC has constantly proven itself as the benchmark in this country when it comes to providing a stable television package for motorcycle racing through SBS Speedweek and Fox Sports, in addition to the quality livestream service.

A key factor in this has been production company AVE’s involvement in the FX-ASC and this next step is a very promising one. Considering it’s scheduled for Saturday evening into the twilight, it should be really engaging viewing.

For people such as myself and most in the industry, we’re aware of the livestream and know where to look for it on any given race weekend, so it’s a great option to see the action take place if you’re not trackside. However for those more casual fans of the sport, a television package on Fox Sports will be far more accessible in the immediate future.

So kudos to Terry O’Neill and all involved with Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions (ARTRP), this is just another feather in their cap to strengthen a very, very good series in what’s still a reasonably difficult landscape to operate within nationally.

But closer to the mark, for this weekend you’ll be able to watch round three of the 2015 series live online, which we’ll have embedded on CycleOnline.com.au tomorrow. In the meantime, check out our Fan Guide by clicking this link.

Before I wrap this up, let’s hope Josh Hook heals up quickly following a crash during free practice at Sugo on Friday morning. He’s avoided broken bones and plans to attempt to ride again during qualifying today.
