Yamaha Racing Team with Yamaha Motorcycle Insurance’s Cru Halliday has broken through for a first-career Superbike class victory today at Sydney Motorsport Park’s third round of the 2015 Australian FX-Superbike Championship (AFX-SBK).

Halliday won the opening race in style after fending off YRT with YMI teammate Wayne Maxwell, before capitalising on a jump-start penalty of Jamie Stauffer (Team Honda Racing) in race two to sweep the round.

The opening 14-lap race saw pole-setter Halliday edge out Maxwell by 0.400s, with Troy Herfoss (Team Honda Racing), Glenn Allerton (YRT with YMI) and Jamie Stauffer (Team Honda Racing) rounding out the top five.

Sean Condon (BikeBiz/Ipone/Swann Insurance Racing) was initially second in race one on track, splitting Halliday and Maxwell, however dropped to ninth due to a jump-start penalty.

Stauffer crossed the line first on track in race two, however it was Halliday who took his second race win of the day after moving past Allerton on the final lap – crossing the line just 0.010s ahead.

Directly behind Halliday and Allerton was Herfoss, trailed by Kawasaki duo Condon and Mike Jones (Cube Racing/Australian Outdoor Living).

Stauffer was demoted all the way back to eighth, while Maxwell also copped a jump-start penalty and dropped from fourth on track to ninth in the results.

Overall it was Halliday who won, meaning he will start Sunday’s Australasian Superbike Championship round from pole, ahead of Allerton and series leader Herfoss, who tied on points to complete the podium. Maxwell and Condon made up the top five.

“I came into this round not very confident after Mallala,” Halliday explained. “To be able to get the pole and two wins is simply amazing. I can’t say enough about the whole Yamaha Racing Team with Yamaha Motorcycle Insurance team.

“They have all worked flawlessly over the gap since round two. I would probably say I was a little bit slow in race two as I was riding a bit conservative, but tomorrow will be a completely different ballgame.”

Multiple-time national champion Rick Olson (Kawasaki) starred in the Supersport class with his first overall on board the ZX-6R, going 4-1-1 for the round win.

Behind Olson on the podium was Brayden Elliott (Suzuki) and race one winner Michael Blair (Yamaha), who maintained his points lead. Filling the top five places were Callum Spriggs (Yamaha) and Mitch Levy (Yamaha).

Also winning the Saturday round today were Ben Henry (Formula Oz), Samuel Davison (FX300 Ninja Cup), Angus Reekie (Nakedbikes), Mario Gonzalez (Pro-Twins) and Glenn Birchall (Formula Xtreme).
